World Photography Day is celebrated on August 19 every year. This day is a celebration of the history of photography and the tremendous growth of current photographic trends. This day is significant because it is a celebration of stories captured in a photograph.

History of World Photography Day

In 1837, a photographic process was developed by Frenchmen named Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicéphore Niepce and they named the process “Daguerreotype”.

The daguerreotype was an immediate success that provided a relatively inexpensive and accurate means of depicting scenes and faces, which previously had to be drawn or painted by hand. In no time, photographic studios were springing up all over the world.

On January 9, 1839, the French Academy of Sciences announced this process, and later the French government bought the patent for the invention and gave it away as a gift, “free to the world”. and the first lasting color photograph was taken in 1861.
